So you were an A-10 pilot? Being AD Air Force, I've been told that the only people to fly the A-10's are Guard. Is that true?

You just became an instant oppo hero. A-10s are awesome.

No, I was a Crew Chief on that particular aircraft (ie. I had my name on the side of it right under the pilot's).
No, there are still some AD units flying the A-10. The 358th FS just deactivated at DM, leaving the 354th & the 357th there. Osan (25th FS) still flies them as well as Moody (74th & 75th Flying Tigers). Guard/Reserve guys are at Whiteman, Barksdale (although I heard they've been deactivated, can't confirm), Selfridge ANGB, MI, Gowen Field, ID, and Ft. Smith, AR (although I heard they've been deactivated too, can't confirm).

I got my first look and experience with them when I was stationed at Mountain Home AFB, ID. They would come down from Gowen all the time and do training missions with the F-15's. I work in Comm so whenever they had to set up a squadron for a day or two, I definitely volunteered. There probably my favorite platform in the Air Force. It's sad to see that they are getting shut down.

Nice! What field? I'm a 3D1X1 working on Elmendorf AFB (now Joint Base Elmendorf-Fort Richardson or JBER).

3C0X1 when it still existed.
I'm coming up for work at the end of next month (I'll be working on JBER for a few days), I was also just up there a couple weeks ago working.

Nice! So are you a contractor now or still Air Force?
